Wolkait sugar factory to be fully powered in April

Addis Ababa, December 28, 2015 (FBC) – Installation of power distribution and transmission lines for the Wolkait sugar factory in Tigray regional state will be finalized in the coming April, according to the Ethiopian Electric Power.
With the project hitting the 70 per cent mark, installation of dual 230 kilo volt heavy duty power cables is being expedited, according to Misikir Negash, EEP Foreign Relations Director.

The project which features 75 power towers is being fully executed by Ethiopians, Misikir told ENA.

The construction of the power lines takes into consideration the surplus power generated from the byproducts of sugar which can be put to sale.

Besides, channeling power to the sugar factory, the project is believed to supply locals with power, Misikir said, also mentioning the 200 temporary jobs it created.

The Ethiopian government is fully financing the installation of the power transmission and distribution project which consumes close to 37 million birr.
