EPRDF discuses current issues, put directions

EPRDF
Addis Ababa, December 28, 2015 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front’s (EPRDF) Executive Committee has concluded its two-day regular meeting yesterday after putting directions.
The Committee, in its two-day meeting held on 26 and 27, December, evaluated the cause and lasting solution for the violence that had occurred in some parts of the country as well as reviewed the ongoing drought response efforts.

Anti-peace elements had attempted to hijack the public’s quest for their destructive objective while EPRDF is striving rigorously to implement the decisions taken at the 10th Organizational Conference of the Front to reply to the questions of the people for development and good governance.

However, their attempt was foiled by the active participation of the peace loving people, including with the utmost efforts of the security forces, the Committee said in a statement it sent to FBC yesterday.

Both the Addis Ababa-Finfine surrounding towns’ integrated master plan and the question of the kemant people for getting identity, which were taken as reasons for the violence that had occurred in some parts of Oromia regional state and north Gondar zone, could not be a cover for anti-peace forces, it said.

The lack to adequately acquaint the public with the plan and reach common understandings on it has created conducive situations for the anti-peace force. The plan will be implemented if consensus is reached after public consultations, the Committee noted.

Regarding Kimant, it is a constitutionally addressed issue. The question of the kimant people for getting identity will be addressed legally and properly, the Committee said.

Efforts are underway to ensure rule of law by taking legal actions on anti peace forces that were behind the violence as well as to thwart efforts of foreign and local forces striving to deface peace in the country, it said.

Rent seekers had also played their part and added fuel on the violence, the Committee said, adding the ongoing fight against rent seeking will be consolidated in close collaboration with the people.

The Committee also recommended the need to scale up the all round activities being made to mitigate the effects of the drought that occurred in some parts of the country due to erratic rains.

The Committee finally called on development agents, the public and the leaderships to do their level best for the success of the second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP-II), a plan which is vital to achieve Ethiopia’s target of becoming a middle income country by 2025.
