Addis Ababa, December 23, 2015(FBC) – Ethiopian Muslims across the country have today observed the 1490th Mawlid festival, birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.
Muslims here in Addis Ababa in particular marked the festivity at the Anwar Mosque in the presence of diplomats and other guests.
President of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council, Sheik Mohammed Amin, said “We should pray for people affected by the El Nino induced drought while observing the festivity.”
Islam is a religion of peace, he said, adding Muslims in Ethiopia are against any kind of terrorism and anti-peace activity.
After denouncing the recent grenade attack occurred at the Anwar Mosque, Sheik Mohammed, urged the Muslim community to stand together so as not to recur similar incident.
President of Addis Ababa Islamic Affairs Council, Dr Ahmed Abdurahman, wished all Muslims happy Mawlid.
