Addis Ababa, January 13, 2018 (FBC) -Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn will travel to Egypt on Monday for an official state visit which will go on until Wednesday, Egypt Independent quoted Al-Masry Al-Youm as saying.
PM Hailemariam’s visit comes in the framework of the joint Ethio-Egyptian committee.
A high level Ethiopian delegation will accompany PM Hailemariam includes Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Workneh Gebeyehu and Ethiopia’s ambassador to Cairo, Taye Atske-Selassie.
PM Hailemariam is expected to meet Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi at the Ittihadeya presidential palace.
He is also expected to deliver a speech at the House of Representatives of Egypt.
PM Hailemariam is scheduled to discuss with Sisi the latest developments in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with Ethiopian Premier last month during his visit to Addis Ababa.
Shoukry also met with his Ethiopian counterpart, Dr Workneh Gebeyehu.
During the meeting, he noted the outstanding commitment the government of the two countries has displayed to further bolster the longstanding and ever growing bilateral ties.
Dr. Workneh for his part said the GERD is a symbol of cooperation that aims at enhancing the capacity of all the riparian countries, including Egypt.
He added Ethiopia strongly believes that the GERD will cause no significant harms to Egypt and always aspires to pursue its development activities in a “win win” approach.
