Water Ministers of Sudan, Egypt to visit GERD tomorrow

Addis Ababa, October 16, 2017 (FBC) – Water Ministers of Sudan and Egypt will visit the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) tomorrow, said Office of Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.

Following the visit, on 18 October 2017, the tree countries will hold a tripartite ministerial meeting to discussion on the two studies to be conducted by French firms, BRL and Artelia, as per the recommendation of International Panel of Experts (IpoE).

It is to be recalled that the three countries have formed a Tripartite National Committee (TNC) to conduct the two studies and inspect the progress of the studies.

According to the Ministry, Ethiopia’s leading role in the establishment of IpoE is stemmed from its desire to strengthen its relationship with the lower riparian countries and build trust among the countries.

The two studies will be conducted as per the agreements reached by the three countries with the two French firms as well as based on the Declaration of Principles signed by leaders of the three countries, it added.
