Addis Ababa, September 8, 2017 (FBC) –Two prominent Ethiopian intellectuals, Professor Tekalign Mamo and Dr Wolday Amha have passed away this week.
Ethiopian soil scientist, Professor Tekalign Mamo, has passed away of natural causes at 61.
The late Professor Tekalign got PhD in soil chemistry and soil fertility from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland as well as served as Vice President of Haremaya University, State Minister of Agriculture, Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture of Ethiopia.
He further published more than 75 research articles and book at a global level. He has also received several awards for the quality of his work, including the 2014 African Green Revolution Yara Award, and a UN FAO Special Global Ambassadorship role for 2015 International Year of Soils.
The late Professor Tekalign will be laid to rest at 1pm local time tomorrow at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in the presence of government officials, his colleagues and families. He is survived by his two daughters.
Similarly, Dr Wolday Amha, Director of Association of Ethiopian Micro Finance Institution, died due to car crash last Wednesday. He died after his car collided with truck. He was traveling from Modjo to Addis Ababa. Three other people also died in the accident.
The late Dr Wolday was an assistant professor at the Addis Ababa University and director of the board of the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. He has conducted researches in finance and agriculture as well as served the association as director for ten year.
The late Wolday is survived by his three children.
