Addis Ababa, July 29, 2017 (FBC) – Ethiopia has secured over 3.3 billion US dollars from tourism in the last Ethiopian fiscal year, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism disclosed.
Public and International Relations Director at the Ministry, Gezahegn Abate told ENA that the revenue was obtained from more than 886,000 tourists who visited the country.
The plan was to earn about 3.7 billion US dollars from one million visitors. The sector has created over 297,000 job opportunities during the specific period.
Expansion of infrastructure at tourist sites is being underway as part of activities to increase the income generated from the sector, he noted.
The East African nation has planned to earn seven billion US dollars from the sector by attracting two million tourists during the current Ethiopian fiscal year.
