Addis Ababa, July 1, 2017 (FBC) –After completing its test run, Omo Kuraz one sugar factory has entered into production.
It is one of the four sugar factories under the umbrella of the Omo-Kuraz sugar development project. It was built by an indigenous contractor, Ethiopian Metals and Engineering Corporation.
According to a statement the Corporation sent to FBC today, the factory which was erected on 420,000 square meters of land in south Omo zone, SNNP regional state, entered into production after completing its trial run.
The factory has the capacity to crash 12,000 tons of sugarcane per day and generate 45 megawatts energy, the statement indicated.
The factory, whose finish date was delayed due to change in design as well as internal and external factors, has created employment opportunities for thousands of people, it added.
