Addis Ababa, December 14, 2015 (FBC) – The 2015 Human Development Report ‘Work for Human Development’ launched today in Addis Ababa at the UN Economic Commission of Africa
Present at the official launch ceremony were Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, Helen Clark, UNDP Administrator, and Selim Jahan, Director of the Human Development Report Office.
“In-depth discussion should be made on human development beyond participation,” Prime Minister Hailemariam, said at the event.He said people want their careers to fetch improvement to themselves and the livelihoods of their families, he added.
Ethiopia has attached due attention towards achieving sustainable growth by reducing poverty, he added.
Helen Clark on her part called for global and national action to guarantee workers’ rights and promote sustainable work in the fast changing world of work.Improvements should be made to ensure safety of employees at work place, she said.She further said countries need to respond to challenges in new world of work and seize opportunities to improve livelihoods.The Report will help countries to adjust to the changing world of work in ways which will advance human development, she added.Selim Jahan, Director of the Human Development Report Office, said governments should focus on addressing unemployment and improving the livelihood of their citizens.
