Scholars urge Ethiopians to remain vigilant against Egypt’s hidden strategy

Addis Ababa, October 27, 2016 (FBC) – Scholars have called on Ethiopians to remain vigilant against Egypt’s hidden stretched out hands into Ethiopia.

In an interview they had with FBC, the scholars said Egypt is making alliance in various ways with forces that have a target of dismantling Ethiopia.

According to them, Cairo is trying to employ different tactics to attain it long-years dream of weakening and destabilizing Ethiopia.

Edris Yeba, a member of administration and development study department at Jimma University, said the maneuvering by Egyptian intellectuals in one of the methods that the government of Egypt is using to attain its objective.

These intellectuals are trying to persuade Egyptian politicians to push for the historical agreement signed in 1951 between their country and Sudan without the involvement of Ethiopia, he said.

They are also attempting to inflame Egyptians negative attitude towards Ethiopia by stating this erroneous agreement which denied Ethiopia’s right of using the Nile water, he added.

Edris said the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) has become another headache for Cairo.
