Addis Ababa, October 1, 2016 (FBC) –German Chancellor Angela Merkel will embark on a three-day trip to Africa on October 9 for talks on the root causes of Europe-bound migration, government spokeswoman Ulrike Demmer said Friday.
The talks will take place in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa as well as in other locations, Demmer said, without giving further details.
Merkel has urged the European Union to repatriate migrants who do not qualify for asylum, sign readmission deals with African nations, and boost development aid so migrants have less reason to flee poverty.
