High level delegation of Tigray visited modern ware and waste treatment facilities in Maryland: 2 August 2016
The high level delegation of Tigray continued today its discussion and engagement with Maryland Environmental Services (MES) in the USA. The authorities of the service presented the overview of the organization and its functions including technical and environmental services, environmental operations, and waste and water management. Presented Examples of water recycling, waste treatment, land filing, compost making of the service, among other things, were impressive for the delegation. There was a follow up constructive discussion for tapping experience in Maryland in addressing the real problems we are having back home.
Moreover, the delegation has visited a conventional waste water treatment facility and another high tech advanced membrane based waste treatment facility of Maryland. Ayder Referral Hospital in Mekelle is installing the latest membrane based Technolgy of waste treatment and there is a lot to learn for Mekelle from Maryland. The delegation applauded the integrated water resource management and real time water controlling system like SCADA of the service. It has been agreed that there is a lot the team has learnt to implement in Tigray and follow up joint collaborative activities are mapped out. The delegation is led by his excellency Amb Dr Addisalem Balema and consists of leaders of bureau of health, Mekelle Water Supply, Mekelle university, Tigray Development Association, Diaspora Affairs Office and Senior Advisor to the Regional President.
