The Professional Ethiopian Network (PEN), is a new collaboration that is led by the Ethiopian Youth and aims to strengthen and empower the Ethiopian Youth’s personal and professional development. On May 7th, 2016 PEN held a successful launch event at Red Rooster in Harlem, New York. Dr. Tekeda Alemu, Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the United Nations spoke briefly thanking the team for their initiative and encouraged the audience to watch President Obama’s commencement speech at Howard university. The distinguished guests Tegegnework Gettu under-secretary-General and Associate Administrator of UNDP, Marcus Samuellson Celebrity Chef, Hermela Aregawil previous Tv Reporter and Digital Producer at Al Jazeera, and Mesfin Tegenu President and founder of PerfomRx spoke about their professional, educational and personal experiences as Ethiopians living in the United States and other countries.
PEN’s mission focuses on two key objectives (1) utilizing the Ethiopian network to help develop a mentorship program and create a platform that facilitate connections amongst the experienced professionals and those in need of assistance to achieve their goals and (2) organizing a cultural exchange trip for the diaspora to visit Ethiopia gain firsthand exposure to different parts of their culture and participate in service oriented projects in their fields of study.
