Addis Ababa, March 29, 2016 (FBC) –The House of Peoples Representatives (HPR) said it is monitoring the ongoing good governance campaign and drought response activities by forming a supervision team.
HPR Speaker, Abadula Gemeda, briefed journalists today on the House’s activities and other current issues.
According to the evaluation by the House, the campaigns launched to address good governance problems are at various levels of implementation, he said.
There are institutions with rapid transformation. But in contrast, there are also delays in some institution in addressing issues that should be rectified, he said.
The House will do integrated activities in the budget year to fill these gaps and address problems arising in connection with bad governance and El Nino caused drought, he said.
According to a field visit paid by members of the House, the government has been offering integrated support for people affected by the drought. The House put directions that help to consolidate the drought response activities.
Similarly, the House is monitoring the good governance activities underway in federal institutions and city administration, he said.
The 14 supervision team dispatched to Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa city administration have carried out evaluation focusing on service delivery, revenues and customs, ethics and anti-corruption commission, urban development and construction, including provision of water and electricity services, he said.
Based on the report from the team, the changes have been registered in the aforementioned sectors. The report will be re-evaluated by the House, he said.
The final results will be tabled for the Prime Minister and pertinent bodies for corrective measures, he said.
