(EBC; 27 March 2016) – The 5th All Ethiopia Games came to a successful conclusion on Sunday in a colorful closing ceremony held at Hawassa stadium in the presence of senior government officials.
The guest of honor, President Dr. Mulatu Teshome, attributed the success to coordinated efforts of both the organizers and participants whom he took to the opportunity to congratulate.
The games are not only producing young sportsmen and women who will represent the nation in the international arena, but also helping boost the nation’s sports infrastructure, said Dr. Mulatu.
Besides strengthening social and economic cohesion, the games have also proved to be public mobilization forums.
The President said the high spirits and harmony witnessed during the games should be emulated in other national development endeavors.
The President said the government will strengthen support for the games which he said are also playing a key role in terms of producing young sportsmen and women.
Youth and Sports Minister, Redwan Hussein, for his part said the games held in line with the Olympic Values and Ideals are contributing share in cementing national unity and consensus.
In the Olympic competitions, Amhara, Oromia and SNNPR took first to third positions with 58, 53 and 43 gold medals, in that order.
