Oromia calls on public to cement culture of unison, tolerance

Addis Ababa, February 18, 2016 (FBC) – The Oromia regional state underscored the need to further cement the exiting culture of living in unison and inclusive tolerance.
In a statement it issued today in connection with the violence recently occurred in some woredas, west Arsi zone, the state’s communication affairs bureau said that destructive forces have been striving to spread an agenda which incites religious and ethnic conflicts.

The violence occurred in some parts of the state this Ethiopian fiscal year caused loss of life and property damage, the bureau said in a statement sent to Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC).

With the full participations of the public, their attempts to demolish the Constitutional order and to return the public back to slavery have been foiled, the statement indicated.

Peace had returned to the areas and the people have now diverted their attention towards development, it said.

However, these forces have been conducting their destructive activities by changing their makeup and system.

As a result, loss of life and damage to property has been occurred in some woreds of Arsi zone recently due to the violence masterminded by these forces, it said.

Above all, they burned religious institution, exposing their plan to ruin the age-long respect and love existed between nations and nationalities as well as religions, the statement added.

Their attempt to gain inappropriate political benefits under the pretext of religion stems from underestimating the people.

Their attempt to deter and weaken the ongoing development and benefit of the people is a sign of desperation, it said.

The age-long culture of living in unison and tolerance will not be misled by chauvinists, the statement said, further calling the public to fight against destructive forces as usual and to safeguard their peace.
