Addis Ababa, February 10, 2016 (FBC) – Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn said African Union’s approval of Ethiopia’s candidacy for the non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is the result of its significant contribution on continental and global issues.
In an exclusive interview with FBC, the Premier said the 26th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU, which was held recently in Addis Ababa, passed important decision on human rights with particular focus on the rights, participation and benefits of women.
Ethiopia has already began working on the agenda ahead and it will consolidates its efforts in partnership with its African brothers so as to ensure the all round benefit of women, he said.
Ethiopia’s nomination as a candidate for the UNSC seat is the result of the country’s role in continental and global issue, the Premier said.
The 10th biennial U.S.-Africa Business Summit, hosted in Addis Ababa recently, managed to attract more participants in its history. Ethiopia obtained a big result from the Summit, according to the Premier.
Several new U.S and African investors, attracted by Ethiopia’s economic growth, expressed their interest to invest in Ethiopia, he said.
The government has attached due attention for the expansion of the manufacturing industry so as to efficiently exploit and ensure the sustainability of the agricultural growth, which is the engine of the economy, the premier added.
In order to achieve the target, industrial parks will be established in 17 selected economic corridors. Four corridors, which commence activities shortly, have already been identified, Hailemariam said.
