TICAD opportunity for strengthened global partnership for Africa’s dev’t: President Kenyatta

Addis Ababa, January 31, 2016 (FBC) – President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta said the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) provides Africa with a unique opportunity for its growth and sustainable development.
This was disclosed during the joint launching ceremony of the 6thTICAD summit, to be held in Kenya from August 27-28, 2016, for the first time in Africa. The past five summits were held in Japan.

Hosting the summit here in Africa would give a great chance for Africa to show its initiative, cooperation and willingness for trade and investment, Kenyatta said.

President Kenyatta underlined that TICAD should focus on supporting transformation and the restructuring of Africa’s economies in line with the vision and aspiration as encapsulated in agenda 2063.

He also expressed the necessities to focus on embracing science, technology and ICT capacities in order to tap the potential of the youth in the process of inclusive development.

Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan on Foreign Affairs, Katsuyuki KAWAI, said Japan would walk side by side with Africa for further cooperation to bring sustainable development.

TICAD was launched in 1993 at the initiative of the government of Japan, with dual objective of promoting high level political dialogue between Africa and its development partners and mobilizing support in favorer of Africa development initiative.
