Addis Ababa, January 24, 2016 (FBC) – African Union (AU) Foreign Affairs Ministers have arrived in Mekelle, Tigray Regional State today to brainstorm and exchange views on the implementation of Agenda 2063.
The Ministerial retreat to be held from 24 to 26 January is part of the preparation of the 26th AU Summit billed for 30 and 31 January 2016 at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Ministers of Foreign Affairs and other ministers duly designated by their governments will participate at the retreat to be opened at 3:00 pm local time today with a remark from the Chairperson of the AU Commission.
Later, the Ministers will reconvene in close session to discuss different items on their agenda including updates on Agenda 2063 Ten Year Implementation Plan, its domestication and flagship projects as well as the accountability framework.
The theme of the 26th AU Summit is: “2016: African Year of Human Rights with a particular focus on the Rights of Women”.
