Addis Ababa, August 28, 2017 (FBC) – President Dr. Mulatu Teshome urged newly appointed Ethiopian ambassadors to further enhance the country’s position in bilateral and multilateral fora and scale up its standing in regional, continental and global spheres.

The President made the remarks here yesterday at the National Palace, during a farewell ceremony to the twelve newly appointed Ethiopian ambassadors.
The newly appointed ambassadors include: Kassa Teklebrhanis appointed Ambassador to Washington, USA; Berhane Ghebre-Christos to Beijing, China; Aster Mamo to Ottawa, Canada; Dr. Shiferaw Teklemariam to Pretoria, South Africa; Professor Merga Bekana to Stockholm, Sweden; Tebeje Berhe to Abu Dhabi, UAE; Metasebia Tadesse to Doha, Qatar; Professor Admasu Tsegaye to Jakarta, Indonesia ; Lulit Zewde to Kigali, Rwanda; Ali Suleiman to Paris, France; Mulugeta Zewde to Khartoum, Sudan; and Ewnetu Bilata to Brussels, Belgium.
While taking note of the fact that Ethiopia has managed to register fast and sustainable economic growth over the years and that the country still plays a leading role in promoting regional and global peace and security, the President further urged the ambassadors to exploit these opportunities in their endeavor to ascertain Ethiopia’s national interest.
Dr. Mulatu also said the ambassadors are entrusted with the responsibilities of maximizing Ethiopia’s economic diplomacy pursuits.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu on his part noted that the newly appointed ambassadors had served in various high-level positions and assumed greater responsibilities in their previous assignments in public offices.
The Minister added, the newly appointed ambassadors had served the people and Government of Ethiopia with a demonstrated commitment and hard work. This, he said, would tremendously help the ambassadors to effectively carry off their diplomatic mission.
Dr Workneh further called the ambassadors to do all they can to lift Ethiopia’s position in regional, continental and global platforms of engagement into new heights and thereby promote the country’s national interest.
