Hawassa industrial park to hire 7, 600 people


Addis Ababa, April 27, 2017 (FBC) –Preparations have been finalized to hire over 7, 600 people for Hawassa industrial park, which was built in Hawassa town, SNNP regional state, according to trade and industry development bureau of the state.

The industrial park had already employed more than 2,000 people.

Based on the request made by companies which started production at the park, preparations have been done to hire 7,639 additional people, Dr Getnet Begashaw, head of the bureau told Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC) today.

Currently, more than fifteen leading global apparel and textile companies from America, China, India, Sri Lanka as well as six local manufacturers are operating within the park.

Located in Hawassa, 275 km far from Addis Ababa, the eco-friendly Hawassa Industrial Park is expected to employ 60,000 people at full capacity.

It is also expected to generate export revenue amounting to 1 billion US dollars annually.

The industrial park, which rested on 300 hectares of land, has been dedicated to host mainly textile and garment products.
