Cornerstone laid for construction of $100 mln tertiary hospital in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, April 20, 2017 (FBC) – Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has laid a cornerstone for a tertiary hospital which will be built at a cost of 100 million US dollars by Ethiopian doctors living in the US and other countries.

The government will support professionals of Ethiopians and foreign nationals of Ethiopian origin who wants to invest their knowledge and capital in their home country, said the Premier during the event.

Some 80 percent of diseases in developing countries are curable if treated, he said, adding the construction of the hospital will have a significant contribution to prevent the increasing complexity of disease characters.

Moreover, it will allow Addis Ababa-based diplomatic community to get state-of-the-art medical treatment, he added.

Furthermore, the hospital will help the country to save foreign currency by reducing the number of Ethiopians seeking medical treatment abroad, it was noted.

The 300-bed hospital, to be built by the Ethio-American Doctors Group (EADG), will have 8 operating theaters, medical and cancer centers, among other.

The construction of the hospital will be finalized within three years.

EADG consists of a consortium of more than 260 physicians.
