Addis Ababa, March 4, 2017 (FBC) –A cornerstone was laid for the construction of a software development center inside the Ethio-ICT Park at a cost of 480 million birr.
Speaking after laying the cornerstone, Dr Debretsion Gebremichael, Minister of Communication and Information Technology, said information technology is an engine to fill the growth gaps of countries.
Expansion of information technology is vital for developing countries like Ethiopia, he said, adding taking its importance into consideration, the government has given prime attention for the growth of the sector.
About 20 indigenous companies have entered into the Ethio-ICT Park which was inaugurated last Ethiopian fiscal year.
CNET software technology plc became the first Ethiopian company to lay a cornerstone to construct its own building in the park.
Next, foreign companies which could transfer knowledge and experience to local companies will be allowed to enter into the park, Dr Debretsion said.
The Minister finally urged the company to become competitive globally and generate foreign currency for the country.
Upon going fully operational, the software development center, it will create employment opportunities for more 1,100 people.
