Preparations finalized to successfully host 28th AU summit


Addis Ababa, January 25, 2017 (FBC) –Ethiopia is ready to successfully host the 28th African Union Summit, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The summit will take place from 30-31 January 2017, under the theme “Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investment in the Youth.”

Heads of states and government will talk on many key issues at the meeting, including election of a new leader for the African Union Commission.

During the meeting, Ethiopia will showcase its success in youth development, education and job creation, Tewolde Mulugeta, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told FBC today.

The meeting will also create a good opportunity for the country to emulate best practices from other African countries, he said.

About 4,000 guests are expected to arrive in Addis Ababa for the meeting.

According to Tewolde, 37 African leaders, three deputy presidents, three deputy prime ministers and 49 foreign ministers have so far confirmed their participation in the meeting.

Moreover, 35 senior officials from non-African countries and representatives of 25 international organizations are expected to participate in the meeting.
