Addis Ababa, December 3, 2016 (FBC) –The government will strengthen its ongoing efforts to ensure peace and security in the country, said Dr Negeri Lencho, Minister of Government Communication Affairs Office (GCAO).

He made the remark at a press conference he gave here yesterday on current issues.

As a result of the gains made after the declaration of the state of emergency, countries are lifting the temporary travel warning they issued restricting their citizens from travelling to Ethiopia, Dr Negeri said.

Those who breach the state of emergency will face justice, he said, citing the detention of Dr. Merera Gudina as a case in point.

According to him, Dr. Merera was arrested for violating the directive which restricted any communication with terrorist organization.

Dr Negeri further said preparations have been made to effectively put in place Ethiopia’s second national human rights action plan, which was approved recently.

The Minister added that following ongoing ruling party deep reform program, those implicated in abusing power would be held accountable.

Regarding the upcoming 11th Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Day celebration, the Minister said preparations are underway to observe it peacefully and colorfully next week.
