Foreign, local observers praise composition of new cabinet

Addis Ababa, November 1, 2016 (FBC) – Foreign and local observers have praised the composition of the newly formed cabinet which they said is unique in the history of the Ethiopian Parliament.

The House of People’s Representatives in today’s morning session endorsed a freshly composed cabinet proposed by the Prime Minister.

The 30 member cabinet is composed of largely professionals with academic skills and huge experience in their areas of specialization.

“I expect new action, I expect dialogue, I expect changes in the way the country is being ruled in the positive way,” said Eduardo Roule, Acting Ambassador of Spain.

In an interview with ENA, the Acting Ambassador said it is good news to see the new arrangement with a lot of new faces and “new blood” taking over various ministerial posts.

“As far as foreign affairs minister is concerned, it is a new face and I hope it will bring a new communication with the foreign community and the international community here in Addis [Ababa] and I am happy with the result,” Roule added.

Dube Jillo,MP, said “it is very amazing, today’s cabinet is very nice, the Prime Minister did a very good selection and I am very happy, this is the first time for me and it is surprising.”

He said the newly formed cabinet will enhance current efforts of maintaining fast economic growth.

The newly appointed Minister of Government Communication Affairs Office Dr. Negeri Lencho also said “the position given to me is highly relevant to my profession and my experience and may be the gaps which I feel may exist can be filled gradually through different training and also through my services.”

“I can simply say that I am ready and I am committed to contribute my part,” he stated.

The newly included ministers will make use of their professional background in voicing concerns of the society at large.

“We cannot answer the public demand in overnight but I am hopeful that in the near future and gradually we can respond to the question that has been raised by our citizens and hopefully this arrangement and this new cabinet will respond to the interest and need of the society,” he added.

The new cabinet comprises 21 new appointees with nine others retaining their previous ministerial posts.
