Ethiopian national appointed as Deputy Force Commander of UNISFA

Addis Ababa, November 1, 2016 (FBC) – Brigadier General Zewdu Kiros, an Ethiopian national, was appointed as Deputy Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).

UNISFA’s establishment came after the government of Sudan and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) reached an agreement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to demilitarize Abyei and let Ethiopian troops to monitor the area.

Commenting on her appointment, she said “I felt happy on this appointment because participation of women in the military and United Nations peacekeeping missions is low.”

“I will perform at the highest level and fulfill the requirements of the job,” she added.

Brigadier General Zewdu has almost 30 years of experience in the military.
