Addis Ababa, May 31, 2016 (FBC) – The United Nations (UN) is going to build its third largest office in Ethiopia at a cost of 56 million US dollars.
President Mulatu Teshome received today a seven-member delegation led by Stephen Cutts, UN Assistant Secretary-General for the Office of Central Support Services in the Department of Management.
As a member of League of Nations, Ethiopia had built and handed over office for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the President said.
Similarly, the government will provide the necessary support for UN’s move to renovate the office maintaining its historic originality, Mulatu added.
Carlos Lope, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, who was present at the discussion, said the renovation of the building will make Ethiopia the third seat of the United Nations.
The renovation is expected to consume a total of 56 million US dollars and it includes among others, the construction of exhibition centers, museums, different office buildings and modern parking areas.
Once the office is completed, Addis Ababa will be the third seat of the UN, next to New York and Geneva, according to information obtained from office of the president.
