Oromiya demotes, sacks 829 officials

Addis Ababa, 14 April 2016 (WIC) – The Oromiya Regional State announced that it has taken administrative measures against 829 mid and high level officials in a bid to ensure good governance.

Head of the Oromiya Public Relation Bureau, Fekadu Tesema, said that the regional government took administrative measures against 829 officials. He said that 121 higher officials were demoted while 708 mid and high level officials were sacked.

According to Fekadu, the decision to demote and sack officials was taken to solve public grievances observed in different part of the region.

He said that the recent instability in different part of the Oromiya can be partly explained by maladministration.

Since the issue of ensuring good governance in the region is a matter of life and death, the region will continue to take corrective measures whenever necessary, he said.

Fekadu noted that the public expressed its concern in relation to water provision, road development, health service, housing and unemployment.

The head highlighted that the lagging behind schedule of 3,500 tap water projects, 52 road projects and 4 hospitals are among some of the projects the public expressed its dissatisfaction.

Cognizant of the public concern, the regional government has decided and engaged in practical action to conclude 2,430 tap water projects, 22 road projects 4 hospitals by the end of this budget year while the remaing balance is scheduled to be completed in the coming budget year, he said.

In a bid to solve public concerns in relation to health service, the government has started pilot drag administration systems in 20 hospitals in the region while at same time training officers in those hospitals. That new approach is expected solves the problems related to drug wastage, he said.

Meanwhile, the regional government transferred 2,897 hectares of land occupied in different urban centers of the region illegally to land bank while 1,660 houses built illegally has been demolished said the bureau head.

According to the head, the regions has solved 28,395 public compliant in relation to title deeds in urban centers out of the 45 thousand complaint filed by the public.Source :Walta
