Addis Ababa April 01/2016 British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is set to launch Amharic programs via medium and shortwave frequency, according to Anne Soy, BBC African Correspondent.
Talking exclusively to ENA, Soy said the new initiative comes as part of BBC’s plan of expansion of the African Service.
The new Amharic service will help publicize political and socio-economic happenings at national and continental levels, Soy added.
She said through its news bulletin, BBC plans to reach out to millions of Ethiopians.
In his speech he made in 2015, the BBC’s Director General Tony Hall announced about the “Open BBC” plan, which includes a network of 100 “public service reporters” shared with local news providers.
The BBC’s new radio broadcast is expected within a month, according to the correspondent.
