Addis light rail goes green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

Addis Ababa, March 17, 2016 (FBC) – The Addis Ababa light rail transit (AA-LRT) service and the Embassy of Ireland in Ethiopia announced that as part of the 7th annual Global Greening Initiative (GGI), the light rail system in Addis Ababa joins many famous global landmarks and prominent monuments today on St. Patrick’s Day to promote its service throughout the world.
Briefing journalists yesterday to announce the joining of the system to GGI, the Addis Ababa Light Rail Transit Service General Manager Henok Bogale said that the system is using hydro-electric power and paying an outstanding contribution to climate change adaptation.

As the railway system runs a carbon free project, it works on Green Oriented Development (GOD), and joined the Global Greening Initiative to promote the railway at the international event, he added.

Irish Ambassador to Ethiopia, Aidan O’hara, on his part said that his country is impressed while Ireland and Ethiopia could celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the same day together.Read more
