Addis Ababa, January 6, 2016 (FBC) – Religious fathers have called for kind deeds during Christmas celebration, a festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.
Religious fathers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Ethiopian Catholic Church, Evangelical Churches Union of Ethiopia, and the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus conveyed their holiday messages today.
They called on the faithful to give special place for peace, mankind’s greatest gift, by avoiding hatred and building tolerance.
Patriarch of the Ethiopia Orthodox Church, Abune Mathias, said the festival should be celebrated with peace and love.
Orthodox Christians need to remember those people affected by the drought in some parts of the country and offer them support while celebrating the holiday, the Patriarch said.
Head of the Ethiopian Catholic Church, Cardinal Berhaneyesus, on his part said flowers of the religion should observe the festival by offering support for elders and orphans.
The Cardinal also called on the public to support government’s efforts to ensure good governance in the country.
President of the Evangelical Churches Union of Ethiopia, Pastor Tsadiku Abdo, said we should celebrate the day by extending support for the needy and visiting the sick.
President of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus, Rev. Dr Wakseyomm Idosa, underscored the need to celebrate the holiday by doing good deeds for another and improving values.
