Ethiopia, Korea seek partnership on global security issues

Addis Ababa, August 17, 2016 (FBC) – Ethiopia and the Republic of Korea have made consultation today in Addis Ababa to undertake joint tasks pertaining to global peace and security.

Foreign Affairs State Minister Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie and Deputy Minister of Multilateral and Global Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Choi Jong-moon shared views on the pressing global issue.

The bilateral talks focused on partnerships to ensure peace and security in Africa, Asia and the rest of the world.

According to the state minister, many countries of the world are showing interest to work with Ethiopia on issues of peace and security owing to Ethiopia’s election as non-permanent member on the UNSC.

Ethiopia’s role as a leading contributor to peace and security in Africa and beyond as well as its tried and tested experience in the field will further be maintained considering its election, Ambassador Taye assured.

The two officials also exchanged views on ways of accomplishing the 14 bilateral agreements signed between Ethiopia and Korea during the official Ethiopia visit of Korean President Park Geun-hye.

The today’s agendas of discussion also covered the execution of the half a billion USD loan agreement signed between the two nations to enable Ethiopia carry out a range of development activities.

Deputy Minister of Multilateral and Global Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Jong-moon also revealed Korea’s keen interest to establish strong bilateral relation with Ethiopia, covering various fields of development.

Among the bilateral fields of engagement the two nations are looking for primarily include fields of economy, investment and security.

The deputy minister said his country is encouraging and supporting investors interested to invest in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia and South Korea have been partnering on regional and global issues for the past 10 years.
