Tigray collects close 2.7 billion revenue

Tigray
Addis Ababa, 30 April 2016 (WIC) – The Tigray Regional State has collected more than 2.6 billion birr from tax and non-tax revenue in the past nine months of this budget year.

Senior Revenue Expert with the Region’s Revenue Development Authority, Shewit Hagos, told Walta Information Center that the Authority has collected close to 2.7 billion birr in the past nine months of this budget year.

According to Shewit, the region’s revenue amount is over its plan of collecting a little over 2.2 billion birr.

In comparison to last year’s performance, this year’s performance has grown by 26.6 percent, he said.

Shewit noted that the revenue collection enhancement is partly the result of regional economic growth and good governance initiatives launched by the regional government.

Apart from that, training aimed at filling employees’ revenue collection gaps and a deepening tax payers willingness to discharge their tax have played their part in the Authority’s drive to improve regional revenue collection, he said.

The regional government has planned to collect a little over 3.2 billion birr this budget year.
